Sometimes, you pay the cost
Slowly morphing into a personal, public journ(ey)al

Designer & maker.
It's 9:53 am and I'm waiting to board a flight. I just finished an energy drink to stay sharp. Is this a good start to being intentional about my health this year? I don't think so. I can give you a ton of reasons (work deliverables, learning etc) why I'm starting my day with a drink that would not contribute to my health, but here's some insight into the reason behind my action.
"You gotta pay the cost to be the boss." - Meek Mill
This statement would clearly mean different things to different people. However, I think what is familiar to almost everyone is the word "cost" aka, sacrifice. I was reading a thread from Julie Zhou (fmr. VP of design at Facebook) this morning and she wrote:
"The price of rapid improvement is repeated failure. Doubt and discomfort are the entry price of excellence. It's your choice to play this game, of course. But if you do, recognize that there are no shortcuts to hard work and struggle."
I thought hard about "discomfort" being an "entry price for excellence". I am well versed with the statement but coming from Julie, it hit differently. "EVEN THE LEGENDS KNOW!" was the statement that rang in my head. This then leads to another statement; how bad do you want it?
It is unhealthy to frequently take in energy drinks (the sugar content is unreal), especially at the start of one's day but it helped me achieve a tiny bit of my goal (even the ones I didn't set) this morning. I'm slowly starting to write daily and if I try, I can be able to keep up. I may try the healthy route tomorrow and still have the same result (achieving my daily goals, writing an article, etc) but for today, I chose to pay this cost.
Everyone's path is different, so is everyone's sacrifice. These costs and sacrifices are usually for a short time and as long as you are able to manage/endure your sacrifice, you'll reap the rewards in due time.
For now, stay healthy and avoid energy drinks!
I almost missed my flight by the way. I was the last person to board – absolutely do not recommend.
